About Famous Grouse Blended Scotch Whisky –

Blended Scotch Whisky Matthew Glogg was a grocer & wine merchant at 22 Athol Street, Perth, Scotland. Glog specializes in wines and ports originally imported from France, Spain, and Portugal. When Queen Victoria visited Perth in 1842, he was invited to supply wine for a royal banquet.

In 1860 his son William Glogg took over the company. After the Great French Wine Blight, the company began thinking about producing its own blended whiskey around 1875. In 1896, William’s nephew Matthew Glogg took over the family business. He created a new mixed brand in 1896 called The Gross. At this time the company was operating from Grandfather’s premises but had expanded to occupy adjoining shops, occupying 20 to 26 Athol Street jointly. In 1905, the limited company of Matthew Glogg And Sons was formed and in the same year, Gross was renamed Famous Gross. Matthew Glogg’s daughter Philippa designed the label’s first gross icon. It was only at this point that the company moved into new purpose-built premises on Kinnoull Street.

In 1970, Matthew Glogg And Son, owned by the Glogg family, was sold to Highland Distillers following the death of president Matthew Frederick Glogg. The company’s marketing Strategy and distribution power made Popular Gros the best-selling Scotch in Scotland by 1980 and the 2nd-best-selling Scotch in the UK. Since the 1980s, the brand has been exported overseas, where it now sells 2 Corore cases annually. In 1984, the famous Gross was awarded a Royal Warrant.
